The Lincoln Land Community College Academy of Lifelong Learning (ALL) is holding a Winter Celebration Thursday, Jan. 24 in the Trutter Center at LLCC-Springfield, 5250 Shepherd Road. The public is cordially invited, including anyone interested in becoming an ALL member.
The event begins at 10:30 a.m. with a special presentation by Matthew Meacham titled, “The Many Sides of Shape-Notes: A Distinctly American Musical Phenomenon.” The event is sponsored in collaboration with the Illinois Humanities Council and the Trimble Charitable Trust/PNC Bank.
Following the presentation, a potluck luncheon will be held where members and guests will discuss a special topic. Participants are asked to bring a food dish to share.
From 1-3 p.m. the ALL Games Group is hosting “Let the Games begin!” The Games Group has developed a tradition in January of a “trivia” championship (though other games are available).
The Academy of Lifelong Learning offers educational adventures to anyone 50 and older. Classes and activities are planned and presented by members who enjoy meeting interesting friends, sharing ideas, exploring topics of interest, learning from one another and having fun. No prior educational background or professional experience is required or expected. A love of learning and a desire to share ideas are the only prerequisites.
With a yearly membership fee of $55, ALL members enjoy unlimited attendance at their choice of activities, including lecture and discussion programs and special interest groups. Nominal fees are charged for other popular programs including breakfast roundtables, which feature guest speakers and Wander on Wednesday, a monthly program travel and learn program.
