TIME: 10am-5pm Mon-Fri, 10m-3pm Sat.
The Springfield Art Association is proud to welcome native son Charles Houska back to Springfield for a new exhibition of his bold, graphic, colorful paintings. Houska’s signature pop-art style is recognizable by its whimsical cast of characters and bright colors. Though Houska's art has been called "instantly gratifying" and "energizing" by art critics, Houska simply views his art as an escape from the gloom and doom of the real world. There is no hidden message, political or religious meaning. "I paint for light-hearted, open minded people of all ages," he says. Will Houska's art appeal to you? You be the judge. This exhibition will be on view in the Gallery of Art from June 29 to July 20, 2013. All are welcome at the opening reception on Saturday, June 29 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.
Born and raised in Springfield, Ill., Houska earned a bachelor's degree in art/visual communication from Illinois State University in 1987, and worked as a graphic designer in Chicago for a few years. He was pleasantly surprised to find that his own art was enough to support him and he moved back to Springfield to work as an artist full-time. Houska currently lives and works in St. Louis, Mo., where he operates a gallery/studio, Houska St. Louis.
The Springfield Art Association’s Gallery of Art is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free. For additional information contact Betsy Dollar, Executive Director, at 217-523-2631 or by email: email@example.com.
