On the evening of August 14,1908, a race war broke out in the Illinois capital of Springfield.
On August 14th, 2018, the 110th anniversary of the event, interested citizens and visitors are invited to gather at the Lincoln Library for a screening of "Springfield Had No Shame" at 6 p.m.
There are currently many efforts underway to research and memorialize the 1908 events. A librarian from the Sangamon Valley Collection will give a short presentation about these current and past efforts, followed by a short discussion.
Following the presentation, there will be a free public reception in the Old State Capitol at 7:30 p.m., presented by the Illinois NAACP and the City of Springfield.
