QUILTS of Springfield presents its 2018 biennial quilt show, "Piecing 200 Years Together" in recognition of the bicentennial celebration of the state of Illinois. The two day event will be held in the Orr building located on the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, IL. Our show includes several hundred entries as well as demonstrations, a raffle quilt, items for our 2018 charity, and vendors. Food will be available for purchase so come spend the day with us. Easy access to the facility.
Sponsored by Q.U.I.L.T.S., the Springfield area quilters' guild, "Piecing Together, 200 Years in Illinois" is open to the public 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Orr Building (via gate 9) at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield. Admission at the door is $7 or $10 for a two-day pass. Parking is free.
More than 400 quilts by members of Q.U.I.L.T.S. (Quilters United In Learning, Teaching & Self-Improvement) will be on display during the biennial quilt show. Viewers may vote for their favorites in 27 categories. Quilts include hand and machine pieced quilts, appliqued and embroidered quilts, baby quilts, wall hangings, miniatures, garments, and household or holiday items. There will be several display only categories for junior quilters, antique quilts and red, white and blue quilts that will be donated to the Quincy Veterans' Home following the show.
Special show activities include a display of a national touring exhibit of challenge quilts sponsored by Hoffman Fabrics, quilting demonstrations and bed turnings of antique quilts, scissor sharpening, and quilt appraisals by St. Louis-based quilt appraiser Hallye Bone (by appointment). Another event is a "2018 cent sale" of small quilted items, all proceeds to benefit the Mini O'Beirne Crisis Nursery. Also, a percentage of sales at the consignment shop will be donated to Mini O'Beirne. Vendors from three states will have booths during the show.
A quilt, "Spring Prairie Cabin" that was pieced and hand appliquéd by guild members is being raffled. Tickets ($1 each or 6 for $5) may be purchased at the show until the drawing Saturday afternoon. You do no need to be present to win.
