At Peace Lutheran, the inward reflection and growth that is Lent will be contemplated with messages centered around the Rembrandt painting, "The Raising of Lazarus."
The community is welcome to join Peace at Wednesday Lenten soup suppers and services for its series, Transforming Power of Christ. They begin on Wed., Feb. 21 with a light supper at 5:30 p.m. and worship at 6:30 p.m. Confirmation students will be serving as assistant ministers during the services.
"Our world can be a very dark place. In his powerful painting, Rembrandt depicts in a moving way how that darkness is overcome by Christ's mighty hand in our lives," said Rev. Paul Park, interim pastor at Peace. "Rembrandt makes it clear that Christ draws out of darkness into his brilliant light."
Park will briefly preach around the painting, touching on different subjects featured with the following themes:
Wed., Feb 21 — From Darkness to Light, focusing on Christ and Rembrandt
Wed., Feb. 28 — From Disappointment to Hope, focusing on Christ and Martha
Wed., March 7 — From Solitude to Community with Christ and Mary
