This is the second in a series of 12 programs about "Illinois and the Civil War." It is sponsored by the Civil War Roundtables of Macoupin County and Springfield, and is an officially endorsed event of the Illinois Bicentennial.
The United States Colored Troops (USCT) from Illinois: The use of colored troops in the American Civil War was not a sure thing though it was a personal fight for freedom for many slaves and former slaves. This program features Larry Werline as General Grant, who will give the government and military's view on the use of colored troops, and Robert Davis as Sgt. Andrew Lewis of the 29th USCT, relating the perspective from the black troops in the field.
