The Brandt-Thomas Educational Center (BTEC) is hosting an event "Dining in the Dark" on Friday, April 20, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at the Illini Country Club, 1601 Illini Road, Springfield, Illinois, to support individuals in central Illinois who are blind or visually impaired. It will be a fun evening with entertainment by Phil Steinberg and good food. Lights will gradually grow dimmer throughout the meal. We will end the evening with keynote speakers and a raffle drawing with fabulous prizes going to the winners. Dinner tickets are $100 each and Raffle Tickets are $20 each. To learn more about the dinner, raffle drawing and how you can support our efforts, please contact Peggy Dyson, Executive Director at (217) 303-9062, or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
BTEC was established in September 2014 by Evelyn Brandt-Thomas in honor of her husband, Gordon Thomas. Her desire was to honor her husband and improve the quality of life for individuals who are blind or visually impaired.
Our mission is to provide high quality education, training and development opportunities for these individuals through innovative services and programs. Our vision is to support people who have a desire to learn from talented and compassionate individuals in our community in order to reach their full potential. There is no charge for our classes and students can learn to use computers, iDevices or how to adapt to the loss of their eyesight in our Daily Living Skills course. We also offer orientation and mobility classes to help individuals to get around town. We have an art appreciation class and our book club meets every other Friday to discuss a book selection.
