Starring Springfield: Through the Eyes of John Starr Stewart will be on display from July 2-28 with a reception on the 13th in the M.G. Nelson Family Gallery.
Take a step back in time through the turn of the 20th century photographs by Springfield photographer John Starr Stewart. Stewart was a cellist who worked at the state auditor's office during the time he took these photographs. His work included many images of every day life – his peers, Springfield sights, and special events were often pictured through his lens. The scrapbooks he created of cyanotype photos still exist in the Sangamon Valley Collection at the Lincoln Library and offer a personal glimpse into life c.1900.
This show was curated by Sarah Adams, Curtis Mann, and Stephanie Martin.
