The Illinois Governor's Mansion will offer new gallery tours of the Art of Illinois exhibit. Art of Illinois family tours will be scheduled on the third Sunday of each month at the Illinois Governor's Mansion. Family tours are designed for families with children ages 3-12 to encourage children and adults to enjoy the exhibition together. Each month will have a different theme. Family tours will last approximately 45 minutes.
The theme for Sunday, November 18 at 2:30 p.m. is "Listening to Visual Art." What does a painting sound like? We'll look for clues in some of the exhibition's paintings that help us "see" sounds and movement.
Reservations, which are required for all Art of Illinois family tours, may be made by calling 217.782.6450. There is no fee to participate; children must be accompanied by an adult. Visitors over the age of 16 will be asked to present a photo identification upon arrival. No large bags will be allowed on the grounds. Photography will not be permitted.
Co-curated by Wendy Greenhouse and Sharon Darling, Art of Illinois features pieces dating back 750 years through the present day. Pieces in the collection were generously lent by museums and organizations across Illinois, including the Chicago History Museum, Illinois Legacy Collection at the Illinois State Museum and Peoria Riverfront Museum, among others.
Art of Illinois will be on display in the Illinois Governor's Mansion 7 days a week. The exhibition runs from July 2018-January 2019. For more information on gallery tours, please visit: www.illinoismansion.org.
