Students of all ages are invited to join the Young Explorers Club (YEC) and participate in the Junior Bird Feeder Challenge!! There is no pre-registration and all YEC activities are totally free!! YEC meets from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. one Saturday per month (December – March / see schedule below) in the activity room at the Jacksonville Public Library. Students are invited to attend all or some of the YEC meetings.
December 22, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. We will set up the Junior Bird Feeder Challenge and provide supplies for each participant to make a bird feeder to take home. Students will learn the basics of bird identification, and learn how to record the birds coming to the feeders.
January 19, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Participants will discuss their bird feeder challenge results so far and Ed Anderson will give a program on Owls! There will be arts and crafts for a fun project.
February 16, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Participants will update the group on their bird feeder challenge results and Rita Bahan will give a program on our local mammals! There will be arts and crafts too!!
March 30, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. During this meeting, participants will provide their final bird feeder challenge results and prizes will be awarded. In addition, Ed Anderson and Allen Yow will give a program on birds' nests and each participant will be able to build and take home a birdhouse!!
