In 1898 Ms. Eva Carroll Monroe, an African American social work pioneer, started the first Black orphanage in Springfield Illinois and in the state of Illinois. Overtime Ms. Monroe also provided care for the elderly in the family style orphanage.
Route History will launch the celebration and acknowledgment of Ms. Eva Carroll Monroe throughout the state of Illinois and nationally through the "Thank You Ms. Eva" Tour. The tour will launch in Springfield, Illinois with a photo shoot of a diverse group community members who want to acknowledge Ms. Monroe‘s contribution to child welfare, senior supportive services and humanity.
Event photos and videos will be use for promotional purposes in national and local media regarding Springfield's Black Historical treasures.
