"Play Ball" Early American Cricket and FREE open house
What team sports did the people of Illinois play during Lincoln's lifetime? One of the sports they enjoyed was the venerable old English game of cricket, which was being played in Illinois as early as 1818. Visitors to our program can personally relive this legacy by joining in the short, informal, 19th c. cricket games that American cricket player and historian Tom Melville will be conducting at the Edwards Place on June 15 and August 3. Anyone can play! Absolutely no experience required! In addition, Edwards Place will be open to free self-guided tours that day. Bring your family, your lawn chairs, and even a picnic to enjoy playing and watching this classic sport.
