The 11th Annual Old Capitol Blues & BBQs will be held Friday, Aug. 22, 5-midnight and Saturday, Aug. 23, noon-midnight. Downtown Springfield, Inc., Robert "Chick" Fritz Distributing, and Neuhoff Media are proud to announce this year's band lineup, including headliners Victor Wainright & The Wild Roots (Friday, 10 pm) and The Lee Boys & Sacred Steel (Saturday, 10:00 p.m.) Additional performances include: Kicked to The Curb (Friday) 5:30 p.m.; Josh Hoyer & Shadow Boxer (Friday) 7:00 p.m.; Harper & Midwest Kind (Friday) 8:30 p.m.; Hard Road Blues Band (Saturday) 5:30 p.m.; Mary Jo Curry & Tombstone Bullet (Saturday) 7:00 p.m.; and The Blue Suns (Saturday) 8:30 p.m. Whether you like your blues Chicago, Texas or Memphis style, your BBQ Memphis, Kansas City or Carolina style, the Old Capitol Blues and BBQ has something for everyone!
The BBQ competition is smokin' hot with prizes awarded in the rib, pulled pork, brisket, chicken, open, dessert and Grand Champion categories. Cast your votes for the People's Choice Favorite BBQ, Festive Booth, and Hospitality awards. Winners will be announced Saturday, at approximately 5:00 p.m. on the main stage (5th & Adams). Vendors present a variety of mouth-watering menu selections including: ribs, pulled pork, pork chops, brisket, ribeyes, chicken wings, BBQ nachos, kabobs, potato salad, slaw, fried green tomatoes and peach cobbler. A variety of beverages will also be available for purchase. Food and beverage tickets are $1.00 each. The food and beverage ticket tent is located at Fifth and Washington Streets. Must have wristband to purchase food and beverage tickets; and be 21 or older to purchase alcohol.
The 9th Annual Illinois Central Blues Club Challenge kicks-off at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, on the Illinois Central Blues Club (ICBC) stage, (near Fourth and Washington Street entrance). Bands, solo and duo acts compete for the opportunity to represent the ICBC at the 2015 Blues Foundation International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee. County Market Kid's Zone presents a variety of free family entertainment and activities from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., on Saturday, Aug. 23; including "Ham It Up" Karaoke (in-between acts); DePriest Puppet Show (2:00 p.m.); Magic by Jim Percy (3:00 p.m.); Harmonica Workshop by Mark Russillo (4:00 p.m.); Brian The Juggler (5:00 p.m.); Face Painting and Balloon Art by Sunshyne the Clown and Tim the Twister (3:00 – 5:00 p.m.); an art banner and new Lincoln era games and activities. All children's activities will be located on the NW corner of the Old State Capitol lawn, near the intersection of Fifth and Washington Streets.
Gate admission is $10 each day which includes (4) food and beverage tickets; children 12 and under are free. Admission gates will be located near the intersections of Fourth and Washington, Sixth and Washington, Fifth and Adams, and Fifth and Jefferson. Underground parking at the Old State Capitol will be open until 1 a.m. and costs $9.75 per day or 75 cents per half hour. Additional downtown parking locations are listed on the DSI website.
