Local historian, teacher and author Ron J. Keller will discuss his new book, Lincoln in the Illinois Legislature.
Keller's work is one of only a few books that present information about the years 1834-1842, the time when Lincoln served as an elected representative in the Illinois Legislature.
The new books is based on Keller's extensive research into archival legislative files, but also from people who knew about his government service. He suggests that Lincoln's experiences at the time helped shape many of the character traits and philosophies that Lincoln came to embrace and which became much more apparent during his service as President of the U.S.
Keller will be introduced by Rep. Tim Butler, whose legislative district is very close to the same as that which Lincoln himself held.
This talk will be preceded by another author talk beginning at 5:00. People are welcome to attend one or both events.
