Media Advisory: UIS to host Closet Door event in celebration of National Coming Out Day
WHAT: The University of Illinois Springfield Office of Gender and Sexuality Student Services will host its annual Closet Door event in celebration of National Coming Out Day.
WHEN: Noon Friday, Oct. 11, 2019
WHERE: UIS Student Union, second floor
DETAILS: National Coming Out Day is held annually on Oct. 11 and encourages people to take the next step in their coming out process and commemorates the 1987 National March on Washington for LGBTQIA+ equality.
At the Closet Door event, participants are encouraged to walk through the door and tell their coming out stories or why they are allies to the LGBTQIA+ population. Participants are then invited to sign the door.
Participants will take part in a free lunch and receive free "Love is Love" t-shirts at the event.
UIS has celebrated National Coming Out Day annually since 2006.
